CITY FAVORITES: CARACAS AREPAS BAR
In lieu of Wishlist Wednesday today, I’m back to my City Favorites column. A bit of a layout change from the last time, but still showcasing my favorite spots around NYC. Today’s pick, Caracas Arepas Bar, is near and dear to my heart. I first visited back in 2007 or 2008 after an afternoon at the MOMA, and it still remains one of my favorite restaurants to this day. I love the neighborhood (personally, I think the block that Caracas is on is one of the best food blocks in the city!), the food, the vibe and the prices. I’ve never had a bad experience here and just can’t get enough of the food. It’s truly unique and delicious.
The Spot: Caracas Arepas Bar
Neighborhood: East Village (East 7th and 1st Avenue) and other locations (Williamsburg, Rockaway Beach)
Eat: Guasacaca and chips, La Del Gato or La Surena arepa, Obleas for dessert
Drink: Any of their natural fruit juices (flavors change daily), or the Camburada
Perfect for: A quick bite (they have a to-go section next door), or a date or small group dinner but be prepared to wait
Tips: Visit at off times (4 PM) before the dinner crowd to minimize waits. But there are plenty of fun bars to kill time in the area if you do end up waiting for a table.
